Recently, filming took place in Ivano-Frankivsk for a social advertisement about the dangers associated with the illegal circulation of weapons and irresponsible handling of them.
The lead role in the social ad was played by the famous Ukrainian actor Oleksiy Hnatkovskyi. It is extremely gratifying that well-known individuals are getting involved in CENSS projects, helping to raise awareness of these important issues.
Future videos will serve as a warning against careless handling of such discoveries and will teach how to behave correctly when coming into contact with weapons.
As is known, since the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian war, accidents involving careless handling of weapons and ammunition have become more frequent in Ukraine. Dangerous finds often end up in the hands of children and teenagers, sometimes leading to tragedies.
The issue of preventing and reducing security threats to the population arising from the illegal circulation of weapons has been a focus of CENSS for several years. In particular, the initiative to create social advertising is part of a micro-grant program implemented by CENSS in partnership with Small Arms Survey, funded by the German government.
The idea for this initiative came from a member of the Professional Network of the Mykhailo Savliuk Project and the NGO ICAR, which was supported by our competition commission and received a grant for its implementation.
We are very grateful to the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk region, the Police of Ivano-Frankivsk region, the KNP “Regional Clinical Emergency and Maternity Center of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council,” and the creative studio Avanturysty for their support and participation in this initiative.
About the project:
The Center for Security Studies (CENSS), in collaboration with Small Arms Survey and funded by the Government of Germany, is implementing the project “Supporting Ukraine in Countering the Risks of Firearms and Light Weapons Proliferation as a Result of Russia’s Aggressive War.” The overall goal of the project is to prevent and reduce security threats to the population that may arise from the illegal circulation of weapons.
As part of the project, a professional network has been established—an informal group of Ukrainian specialists, professionals, and experts who collaborate with the project to provide an increasing number of Ukrainian practitioners and researchers with inclusive networking opportunities and knowledge exchange with relevant practices, experts, and policymakers at various levels.
