The Executive Director of CENSS, Viktoriia Voronina, is participating in the 9th European Congress of Local Government Authorities, which is taking place in Mikolajki, Poland. The Congress brings together over 2,000 officials, business leaders, and experts from dozens of countries around the world.

According to Viktoriia Voronina, it is crucial and beneficial to speak about Ukraine’s struggle and experience at every available platform. This platform in Poland has an exceptional representation of politicians, local government officials, business leaders, and advisors from EU and NATO countries. Therefore, it is very important to convey Ukraine’s position here. Among the speakers are dozens of Ukrainians, including heads of communities and leaders of public organizations. Despite strikes and the situation at the border, the attitude toward Ukrainians at the European Local Government Congress is collaborative and respectful. The EU and Western countries understand the challenges and difficulties that need to be overcome together. They listen to Ukrainians and are ready to cooperate, learn from our experience, and jointly address global threats.

The panel in which Viktoriia Voronina will participate will focus on the conscious construction of security in Europe. Currently, Europe faces challenges in terms of both internal and external security: Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the flow of migrants across the Mediterranean, internal societal polarization, and religious misunderstandings. These events highlight the fragility of the order and security to which we all belong. So, what steps need to be taken to ensure long-term security for Europe and its citizens?

The European Congress of Local Government Authorities is a platform for exchanging ideas and a meeting place for leaders of local government authorities, regional elites, government administrations, public organizations, and businesses.

Discussions during the Congress address issues of modern urban development, mechanisms for the development of cities and regions, investment financing, urban management, environmental protection policies, healthcare policies, and the activities of local authorities in the new realities. Several discussions at the Congress are dedicated to security and international relations. Ukraine occupies one of the most important places in nearly all discussions.

We thank Forum Ekonomiczne / Economic Forum for including us in this important event and providing the opportunity to talk about Ukraine, its experience in resisting the aggressor, and share lessons that are useful for Europe.
